BIHM's Quality Driven Approach to Education
|
|
Baisan Institute of Hospitality Management (BIHM) came into existence on the basis of the findings of a survey conducted on the employers' need for trained candidates for entry-level jobs in the fast expanding local economies of the Gulf Nations.
The survey indicated the following key outcomes:
-
The need for hands on education rather than conventional class-room education
-
The need for inculcating a sense of personal hygiene, grooming, a positive attitude and commitment towards productive work.
-
The need for attracting students for education for employment in the Hospitality Industry
Based on the above findings, an Apprenticeship Approach to education was adopted, whereby a trainee after initial exposure at BIHM would work under a mentor at the establishment who would facilitate the honing of skills of the apprentice to the acceptable standards of the establishment.

Training In Partnership
|
|
Training in Partnership (TIP) is a novel approach developed at
BIHM to cater the need for a consistent but quality –based employment
process. The Training in Partnership Scheme is a unique concept developed by BIHM.
It is based on the premise of the shared motives of the multiple partners for
creating a common vision of training as an investment which guarantees 100%
return on investment for all stakeholders, a win-win-situation.
Stage 1
Stage One includes identification of specific requirements of the
hospitality industry in the Gulf region. This is achieved through an extensive
survey for manpower demand carried out by BIHM .It determines the nature of the
workforce in terms of skill level and functionality and also the suitable course
content .Thus ,exclusive programmes are designed for every client according to
their expectations.
Stage 2
In Stage Two, probable candidates are short listed by BIHM through
a stringent selection process. The final list of candidates is prepared in
mutual agreement with the client, which is further approved by the Directorate
of Manpower development. This is followed by the actual course conducted by BIHM
through its world- class training facilities. The objective of creating an
individual with a customised skill set is achieved during this training.
Stage 3
Stage Three is the final and decisive stage. It evaluates the
chosen candidates on the basis of their actual performance in the capacity of
the positions that they are trained for. The candidates are allotted
‘on-the-job’ training at the client’s premises. Assessment is independently
done, both by BIHM and the prospective employer. If the performance during this
on-hand-training period is found to be satisfactory, the candidate receives a
full time employment contract from the client.
