BIHM is a process centered organization wherein many processes have been reeengineered to create an environment conducive to development of institutional capabilities and capacities to change to meet the new requirements of the global hospitality industry.

The core of BIHM's Organizational culture is the high level of faculty creativity nutured in an atmosphere of intellectual freedod, high sense of instituitional responsibility of self-discipline.

At BIHM, we believe that International education is much more than having international campus or exchange programs. It is also a curriculum that ensures that all of our students will be able to succeed in a world marked by interdependence, diversity and rapid change. BIHM's International education is one that provides knowledge and understanding of culture, language, geography and global perspectives. Most importantly,it is one that enables all students, both domestic and international, to understand the world through the eyes of others and teaches them how their actions can affect, and be affected by people throughout the world.

BIHM's Quality Driven Approach to Education

BIHM is the premier academic body in the hospitality sector in the Gulf Region. Born out of a need to develop competence and inculcate international hospitality professionalism in sync with the world's unique socio-cultural milieu, it is a definite success in its chosen endeavor.

Baisan Institute of Hospitality Management (BIHM) came into existence on the basis of the findings of a survey conducted on the employers' need for trained candidates for entry-level jobs in the fast expanding local economies of the Gulf Nations.

The survey indicated the following key outcomes:

  • The need for hands on education rather than conventional class-room education
  • The need for inculcating a sense of personal hygiene, grooming, a positive attitude and commitment towards productive work.
  • The need for attracting students for education for employment in the Hospitality Industry

Based on the above findings, an Apprenticeship Approach to education was adopted, whereby a trainee after initial exposure at BIHM would work under a mentor at the establishment who would facilitate the honing of skills of the apprentice to the acceptable standards of the establishment.

This concept became very popular amongst employers, which not only met their needs but also provided opportunities to them to mould the trainees according to their standards.

The employers explicitly expressed a desire to include a course on “Positive Attitude” in the curriculum offerings. Accordingly, a course entitled “Positive Attitude”, “Personal Hygiene” and “Grooming” was developed and is now an integral part of the curricula in all programmes offered at BIHM. The course has been refined over a period of time and is now offered a separate module to all cross-sections of employers.

BIHM now conducts annual surveys amongst the employers and the resultant suggestions are incorporated in the curricula and the delivery mechanism so as to make it Industry responsive, without necessarily compromising on the quality or the core components of the education programmes.

The Certificate Course in Fast Food and Certificate Course in Retail Operations have been designed, developed and delivered on the specific requests of the employers.

The concept of Industry responsive approach to education was further reinforced and formalized through the establishment of Advisory Council and subsequent Sub-committees.

These Sub-committees voice the concern of the employers and provide guidance on the improvements on the curriculum in keeping with the current and future needs of the respective industry segments. They also serve as the watch dog on the Quality Assurance in keeping with Quality Policy as laid down in ISO 9001:2000 Quality Manual.

 Training In Partnership

Training in Partnership (TIP) is a novel approach developed at BIHM to cater the need for a consistent but quality –based employment process. The Training in Partnership Scheme is a unique concept developed by BIHM. It is based on the premise of the shared motives of the multiple partners for creating a common vision of training as an investment which guarantees 100% return on investment for all stakeholders, a win-win-situation.

Stage 1
Stage One includes identification of specific requirements of the hospitality industry in the Gulf region. This is achieved through an extensive survey for manpower demand carried out by BIHM .It determines the nature of the workforce in terms of skill level and functionality and also the suitable course content .Thus ,exclusive programmes are designed for every client according to their expectations.

Stage 2
In Stage Two, probable candidates are short listed by BIHM through a stringent selection process. The final list of candidates is prepared in mutual agreement with the client, which is further approved by the Directorate of Manpower development. This is followed by the actual course conducted by BIHM through its world- class training facilities. The objective of creating an individual with a customised skill set is achieved during this training.

Stage 3
Stage Three is the final and decisive stage. It evaluates the chosen candidates on the basis of their actual performance in the capacity of the positions that they are trained for. The candidates are allotted ‘on-the-job’ training at the client’s premises. Assessment is independently done, both by BIHM and the prospective employer. If the performance during this on-hand-training period is found to be satisfactory, the candidate receives a full time employment contract from the client.
