 BIHM Internship Program

Internship is an integral part of the institute’s Diploma requirements and is required for all students. Students may perform an internship in Bahrain, their home country, or in another country.

Internship Period To be considered valid, an internship period must follow the successful completion of an academic term and must last a minimum of three months with the same employer.
The employer as well as the institute, expects exemplary self-discipline and a professional attitude at all time. Non-observance of this will result in disciplinary action.

Internship interview and dress code A Student Appeal Form must be completed prior to leaving the institute for an interview. The student must return from any self-arranged interview with a signed note from the interviewer, and give this to Administrative office for delivery to the Class Advisor. Failure to do so will result in an unjustified absence from the institute. Students going to interviews must wear the institute uniform or a business suit. Students are urged to arrange their interviews at times when there are no classes.

Internship Certificate In order to complete the Hospitality Management Diploma students must present a copy of their Internship Certificate to the Director of Administration. This certificate will be evaluated and placed in the student’s file. AN unsatisfactory internship certificate may jeopardize a student’s Diploma.

Internship in Bahrain BIHM will assist students to find a suitable position in Bahrain, however due to economic conditions and seasonality, these positions are limited. As a result, the institute cannot guarantee placements for all students. Priority is given to students who exhibit a working knowledge of English, maturity, and have a positive, professional attitude. The student is obliged to accept the Institute’s choice for his/her first internship. Any student refusing to accept the institute’s placement will forfeit the right for any further assistance in placement. Interview expenses are borne by the individual student. Students who fail an entire term will not be placed on internship by the institute. The principal responsibility for securing an internship position rests with the individual student.

Internship Outside Bahrain Students doing an internship outside Bahrain must submit to the Internship Coordinator an official letter on the employer’s letterhead stating:

  • The employer’s address
  • Employment dates
  • Position and department to which assigned
  • Confirmation that a certificate of accomplishment will be provided at the end of the internship
Students undertaking a mandatory internship outside Bahrain must respect the institute’s schedule for eventual re-sitting of exams. The institute will announce and post in ample time the dates of these exams.

Changing or breaking an internship contract Students who, for any reason, break their internship contract with their employer without BIHM’s consent must be aware that the internship period in question may no longer be valid. Such action is liable to disciplinary measures. Any alterations, interruption or any other changes to an internship must be submitted to the Director for final decision by the Management Committee prior to any changes being made

 Training In Partnership

Training in Partnership (TIP) is a novel approach developed at BIHM to cater the need for a consistent but quality –based employment process. The Training in Partnership Scheme is a unique concept developed by BIHM. It is based on the premise of the shared motives of the multiple partners for creating a common vision of training as an investment which guarantees 100% return on investment for all stakeholders, a win-win-situation.

Stage 1
Stage One includes identification of specific requirements of the hospitality industry in the Gulf region. This is achieved through an extensive survey for manpower demand carried out by BIHM .It determines the nature of the workforce in terms of skill level and functionality and also the suitable course content .Thus ,exclusive programmes are designed for every client according to their expectations.

Stage 2
In Stage Two, probable candidates are short listed by BIHM through a stringent selection process. The final list of candidates is prepared in mutual agreement with the client, which is further approved by the Directorate of Manpower development. This is followed by the actual course conducted by BIHM through its world- class training facilities. The objective of creating an individual with a customised skill set is achieved during this training.

Stage 3
Stage Three is the final and decisive stage. It evaluates the chosen candidates on the basis of their actual performance in the capacity of the positions that they are trained for. The candidates are allotted ‘on-the-job’ training at the client’s premises. Assessment is independently done, both by BIHM and the prospective employer. If the performance during this on-hand-training period is found to be satisfactory, the candidate receives a full time employment contract from the client.
